two dresses, both alike in lovely. one for the garden and one for tea afterwards. they're the same pattern, E, from the stylish dress book by yoshiko tsukiori (the dress on the book cover). turns out i'm fuller about the heart than the japanese ladies the pattern was made for--i had some challenge adjusting the pin tucks to make a proper fit but in the end it all worked out. only my dear friend who scrutinises will notice that things are a bit awry. i've never traced a pattern from a book before: me at the window with a pencil and a frown. then there was the decision to make another: i found the rosy dress so cosy and sweet, i had to have more. and i learned by doing it again.
today is a-bluster so i'm wearing the feather dress on top of a merino wool one to keep the pernicious wind at bay!
just completely in love with sewing these days. i made the rosy one in a flurry, normal for me. but with the feather dress i really took my time, sewed a little here, a little there. it was a very sweet process, more like a knitting project or an everlasting chocolate bar (also unusual for me, i regret). this weekend my rhythm has been to wake, stretch, eat, walk with T, dig in the garden for an hour, then sew a bit, nibble more, putter, sew, read, eat again, sew; something like that. as soon as i stitched the last armhole, i thought, which will i make next? wow, i am in love!
