supports for me
there are a few things that have been supporting me a lot since i returned from the ashram and i wanted to share them with you.
the first has been sitting in the mornings. it's too cold when i first get out of bed for yoga, so i've been sitting in the cosy chair, wrapped in a blanket, as close to the crackling wood stove as i can get, breathing. after 10 minutes, i pick up my journal and answer the questions: how am i today? what is needed? what is revealed? i write one question in my book and then i close my eyes and breathe. then i open my eyes and write a reflection. this is how they taught me to work with my intuition at yasodhara.
this practise is strengthening my capacity to listen. to myself, first. last night i went to bed feeling all crunchy and uncomfortable. i closed my eyes and breathed and followed the tension inside and i understood that i was feeling disappointed in myself for staying inside when the sun was shining for the first time in weeks. then i breathed some forgiveness and then i promised myself i'd take a long walk, pick kale and have snacks and meals outside in the sun today. i have. and i've done lots of inside things, too.
the balance struck today is related to the second practise i've brought into my life since my ashram visit. i bounced off their schedule to make a rhythm for myself. last night i noticed worry, worry about how i was going to "spend" today. then i remembered my rhythm, got it out and saw that if i followed this pattern, i would have a balanced day. a day of just enough, not too much. a day of not too tight, not too loose.
this is my rhythm. on work days, it's totally different. perhaps that's my next exploration.
wake up and have a snack
yoga (with the cold weather, meditation, then yoga)
breakfast
walk with T
9-11 tending (with a snack at 10)
12:30 lunch
1-1:30 rest
creative play, study, writing (and a snack)
5:30 make sup (and walk with T if samuel's at school)
6:30 supper
9 child's pose, bed
i usually wake up about 6 and practise until 8. but today i didn't get out of bed (it was so cold and the man was in there, warming me) until 7. i was cranky and not alone so things moved slowly. i haven't practised yoga today. i'd like to, though. lying around on bolsters? yes please.
also, i've been drawing. samwell, (who's studying to be an art therapist) suggested that i draw. i was writing, writing, writing, three pages every morning and feeling so stuck. he thought drawing might help me get out of the head. and it has. i love it. i draw the emotions in my body and i draw moments. my teacher at the yoga retreat reflected that drawing is one of my practises. so i've been picking up the pastels and pens more and more.
