show you something
hi,
i've lost my camera. it'll come again but for now...wishing i could show you something:
the double lucet samwell made for me. it's wood and simple and smells of varnish and with it i may make cords, or weeping willow hair, or backpack strapping, or a curtained sanctuary, or some unknown useful, magic. something about things he makes me. and his card: kate, you inspire me. s.
the socks i made him, the first thing he wants to show off when a friend comes over. this pattern i used: http://www.purlbee.com/2008/09/10/whits-knits-mens-socks-for-giving-away/. but his are in the yummiest fir and pumpkin merino. funny how long it took to make him what he said he actually wanted. and then, ah, the gratification.
mama's broke fiddling and strumming last night under twinkle and candle, framed by the rocking horse and whiskey. something about a brown bag bottle neck. and two women loving a moment so plainly, together, incongruous with their black uniforms. they played incredibly. the joie de vivre of punks. it's unexpected and undeniable.
our world transformed again by snow, snow, snow all day. the soft steady kind that beckons me to eat cake for lunch.
and all the meaning making that arises from scraps of susan's cardigan yarn and shroud fabric. i am creating beautiful things with bits of leftovers, things for people who love and miss her, things to hang in sunshine and things to hide in pockets, things for the couch and things to keep warm. i love this kind of project--free form with opportunities for structure, and all for the sore-hearted.
grateful to be through christmas. it was so nice--tears and pleasure table fellows, gift bearers and at the bottom of eggnog glasses. i felt a part of this place, by which i mean this homestead of ours. i felt at home. and, we made it.
hoping you made it, too, to the other side of feasting, laughing, crying, frustrating, enjoying, relaxing. i had a nap today, did you?
kate.
