solstice turning

it's the eve of our annual solstice fast. tomorrow we take a day of rest from petroleum and electricity, including robots, phones, and cars, in honour of darkness, quiet, stillness, space, the creative pause. it's the one time all year samwell's guaranteed to take down the guitar. maybe we'll make some art. some love. some soup. maybe we'll cuddle and stare out the window at the foggy grey beauty.

surely there will be presents wrapped. wish i could show you all i've been cooking, stitching and coordinating. mostly in the kitchen--yums. grateful for the rest from all that activity, too, before days of visiting, feasting, celebrating, and grieving.

i've been thinking about my intentions for this winter staycation. i just finished reading bringing up bebe (very interesting) through which i remembered that "pleasure is what makes life worth living." reminds me to savour the glass of wine, the meal, the man, the stretch. reminds me that my intentions can be pleasurable, that enjoying my self, my family, my life is enough. so, i intend to go sledding. and i intend to spin everyday.

that's it: laughter and soul.

hoping you find your self in the darkness this solstice,
kate
