A Weekend Recipe

Recipe for One Perfectly Luscious Weekend Alone

1. Make a pot of soup. This way, no matter what, you will feel well.
2. As soon as everyone is out of the house, imbibe a Shake the Dust Elixir of your choosing.
3. Put on the music. You know, the one you've been wanting to listen to over and over but feel bad subjecting a household of others too, again.
4. Take your time. You've got all weekend.
5. Whatever it is you've been craving, lay the pieces around the room. Lay them everywhere. No one else needs the couch, the dining table, the kitchen counter, the baskets, the end table.
6. Keep dancing. Dance in front of the mirror. Dance with the windows open. Dance louder. Dancer down low. Dance over there. Dance with your elbows.
7. If, at any moment, you notice a little voice saying, You put all those projects out and now what, you're just going to stare out the window, laugh.
7. Perhaps a little more Shake the Dust?
8. Do touch in with best friends. They like to walk, feed you, laugh. They like to dance. Unless your feeling monkish--then, absolutely, unplug the phone. But if there's a party, seriously, just go.
9. When your husband calls and he's been to the ocean and he's split open and you're split open because you've been writing and writing can break a heart again, have a cry. It's so nice to miss one another.
10. On day three or four, cook something. Cookies perhaps?

Deep in the bliss of my solitude sew-a-thon.

Be well,
Ms. Kate.
